Our Activities

Our Care Staff facilitate Many activities. We actively listen to our residents who participate in choosing activities and new suggestions are incorporated into our activity programme. We are very proud to have developed two world-class and unique care programmes for those with dementia – Namaste Care (four hours daily), a sensory stimulation programme for those with end stage dementia and The Lavender Club (six hours daily), a cognitive stimulation programme in the form of a ‘club’ promoting fun, meaningful activities for those with no/mild/moderate dementia.

The Lavender Club

The Lavender Club promotes well-being and hugely improves the quality of life. The session starts with gentle orientation followed by fun, stimulating, inclusive activities relevant to the individual resulting in a significant reduction in falls as those choosing to go into The Club no longer wander. There has also been some improvement in cognitive functioning and language. Results have been impressive, and the measured quality of life has markedly improved for almost every attendee.

Namaste Care

Within Namaste Care we aim to reduce/eradicate pain, anti-psychotic medication, UTI’s and improve quality of life. Staff are trained to facilitate this person-centred programme by connecting with the senses, enabling residents to be engaged, maintain independence and choice for as long as possible. The results have been ‘outstanding’ and audit showed the quality of life for all attendees measurably improved. Beverley Manzar, our Registered Manager, researched, studied and audited the outcomes resulting in the publication of a paper with Professor Ladislav Volicer (Manzar / Volicer, American Journal of Alzheimer’s, October 2015)

With these two programmes, carers are able to focus on the individual and the emphasis is on inclusion namely doing things “with” residents, rather than doing things “to” with the primary focus on context rather than task, whether this be assisting with meals, facilitating activities, personal care or general engagement.

Other Activities

Afternoon Tea/BBQ

Our social activities bring residents together in our beautiful outdoor spaces. Prepared fresh by our chefs, these popular gatherings feature seasonal BBQ favourites, homemade cakes, and fresh scones.

Individualised Care in Practice

With these two programmes, carers are able to focus on the individual and the emphasis is on inclusion namely doing things “with” residents, rather than doing things “to” with the primary focus on context rather than task, whether this be assisting with meals, facilitating activities, personal care or general engagement.
